Assessing Your Career Interests

It is critical that you learn about your interests, abilities, and values to find your mission in life and start identifying career and academic possibilities. If you need to learn more about yourself and how this knowledge supports your ideas about majors and careers the following web sites provide you with opportunities to explore yourself and determine how your strengths and limitations may start to fit into the world of work.

Self Exploration

Career Connection is pleased to present FOCUS provided through the sponsorship of Coca Cola. To use FOCUS you must be an Ohio State student or an alumn working through the Exploration Office. You must contact Career Connection or the Career Exploration Office for a username and password to use this free online service.

To register FREE,  please click the appropriate authorization button below.  Include your full name and OSU e-mail address in the body of the e-mail (if applicable).  Once you are authorized, you will receive an e-mail back which contains your username and password.  Please allow 2 business days for notification of your username and password!

O*Net Interest Profiler  This instrument is a self-assesment career exploration tool that can help you discover the type of work activities and occupations that you would like and find exciting.

Career Interest Game  Based on Holland RIASEC model. Lists occupations corresponding to each of the six categories and includes brief occupational descriptions.

Career Zone Excellent site for exploring how one's interests relate to the various occupational titles. To learn more about your interests select  "Assess Yourself".

University of Waterloo Career Development Manual Comprehensive collection of self-reflection tools to assess interest, values, skills, and personality preferences.

The Career Key  Describes six basic personality types and provides a list of occupations that match the three types you are the most similar to.

Birkman Career Style Summary Presents the Princeton Review Career Quiz that will introduce you to your most likely interests and work style. 

The Campbell Interest and Skill Survey  The Campbell Interest and Skill Survey (CISSŪ) uses targeted questions and analysis to help you understand how you fit into the world of work. You can take it on-line for a cost.

Keirsey Temperament  This web site includes foreign languages versions and detailed information about your temperament. A cost is required for extensive information about your profile.
